Elbe Flugzeugwerke wins Stadler Rail as customer

Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) has gained a new customer for lightweight rail components in Stadler Rail AG. The recent signing of the contract with Stadler is a further milestone in the expansion of EFW's rail transport business.

In the first step, EFW will manufacture lightweight, stable and durable floor panels for 25 trams, with further vehicles to follow. The special feature of these trams is the optimized passenger compartment, which allows barrier-free access to the seats from every vehicle door. The trams are fully equipped with modern CO2 air conditioning systems and a driver assistance system increases road safety. These trams operated by HEAG Darmstadt are scheduled to enter passenger service as early as mid-2023.

Stadler Rail AG, based in Bussnang, Switzerland, is a manufacturer of rail vehicles with maximum travel comfort customized to the needs of its customers. EFW develops and produces lightweight components together with our customers according to their requirements and specifications. Lightweight materials play an important role in the railway sector from the sustainability perspective and will become increasingly indispensable in the future.

Based on the know-how of lightweight manufacturing from aviation with 30 years of experience, EFW has expanded its product portfolio and adapted and optimized it to the requirements and needs of the railway sector. These lightweight components from EFW ensure safe footing for passengers, enormous weight savings and at the same time high stability and durability in trams from Australia to Europe in 6 countries. EFW also offers a wide product portfolio beyond floor panels, from flat panels to 3D components and complex systems.
